Sturdy heavy wheel with imperfections on rim

(I have purchased both the front and rear wheel of this set, and the reviews are identical) These are a good deal of heavy wheels, right around 3lbs, but they are sturdy and will have to withstand numerous potholes. The hubs are initially tight but smooth out after a week of riding. My greatest complaint is when it comes to the rims. First, they are not beaded, so make sure your tires are not too loose (in diameter). Second, where the rims are welded into a circle, the outside of the wall has a very noticeable dip. This becomes evident when you employ your brakes: thump, thump, thump. Third, there are regarding 20 little holes on the inside of the rim, regarding the diameter of a spoke hole. These holes have sharp edges and are begging to pierce your inner-tube. They sit too high on the walls for a standard rim strip to cover. If you want to cover them, you’d have to buy a lot of rim tape and do up the whole inside of the rim.

Concerning the 2nd point, I actually returned the front wheel thinking it was a lemon, but the alternate wheel was closely identical in the dip at weld location. The same is true of the rear wheel.

good price, BUT not ready to roll

The good: price… but wait….

The bad: the wheel is not ready to roll without servicing and extras that make it cost as much as it would at a local bike shop for a wheel with a skewer. Avenir was too cheap to include rim tape as is customary, the hub needs servicing because the bearings grind and a lot of truing before your may use it. I was competent to handle this because I have the tools and knowhow but it will likely cost any person else with regards to $15 extra + another couple bucks for rim tape. Just go to your local bike shop

Decent wheel, decent price

While I was a little disconcerted to receive the box with one side caved in and the axles poking through the box on both sides, I opened up the box and found the wheel to be in perfective shape.
After reading a former poster’s notes on the sharp holes on the inside of the rim, I checked those out and though it did not seem like they would present a problem, I took a Dremel and smoothed the holes.
No troubles installing the tube/mounting the tire/inflating.
Wheel performs as it should. Decent wheel at a decent price.
